Web users given power to kill a rat with their phones as part of an 'art project'
Florian Mehnert, 44, began broadcasting webcam shots of the rat with a gun pointed into its enclosure on SaturdayWeb users are to be given the power to kill a rat at the click of a button in an “art project” designed to draw attention to the use of unmanned fighter drones.
Its fate will be decided on March 24, when the gun will be loaded.
The site says: “The rat can then be killed by any smartphone, from any computer on the internet.”
Mehnert, from Freiburg in Germany, said: “People can do this anonymously.
“Who knows? Maybe the rat will live. I want to draw attention to global digital surveillance, the use of fighter drones.”
n a poll of whether the animal should live or die, only half of those who had taken part said it should be spared.
Mehnert has also received a barrage of protest e-mails and even a death threat on the internet.
He said: "People are more concerned for the rat than their personal freedom or for the welfare of children in crisis areas around the world.
"They should write to their government and not to me!"

What Guillermo Habacuc Vargas says about it...

Wim Delvoye
“Instead of producing art I wanted to harvest it,” explains Belgian artist Wim Delvoye, inking these pigs with Louis Vuitton logos and Russian prison tattoo-inspired designs on Yang Zhen’s Art Farm China in 2011. Though the pigs were under anaesthetic while tattooed, they are beingheld down in the unsettling photographs of the sessions. There are also heartwarming photos of them happily rummaging around a green forest afterward, where they “snuffle the undergrowth” and roll around in wild muck. Sure, that’s better than awaiting death in a slaughterhouse. But in the end, some of these guys are getting stuffed and some have their skin peeled to be stretched over canvases for sale.

The artist sees the pig as an investment, a piggy bank, literally. Sporting Louis Vuitton logos and Disney princesses, Delvoye’s live pigs were tattooed as piglets and grew along with their marks. Like Cloaca, art collectors could choose to buy either live tattooed pigs or taxidermied dead ones. Buyers can purchase a pig and let it grow old on the farm. After its death, they can ‘harvest’ the skin. The pigs are not killed for their skin, but they live in order to produce the live canvas that is their skin. They are live objects of consumption as soon as the ink decorates their backs, but they can only be materially possessed after their death. Delvoye imitates the concept of economic growth by assigning a ‘value’ to the pigs. The ink drawings on their backs enlarge as the pigs grow bigger, and as their shapes change, so do their tattoos. Here, the artist deals with various contemporary issues such as the globalisation of the meat industry, the pursuit of profit and the transformation of animals into consumer goods. Unsurprisingly, Delvoye’s Art Farm has provoked strong controversy: several animal rights organisations protested and the artist was banned from art fairs for his work.
The Belgian artist Wim Delvoye has been tattooing pigs since the 1990s. In the early 21st century a tattooed pigs project was set up in the Art Farm in China, where there are fewer strictures regarding animal welfare than in most parts of the Western world.
Marco Evaristti
In 2000, provocative artist Marco Evaristti installed ten blenders filled with water and live goldfish at the Trapholt Art Museum in Denmark to challenge the ethics of his audience. In Helena, “the audience members became arbiters over life and death in a situation where it was crystal clear what would happen if they pressed the button.” Two buttons were pushed, but the courts decided that the deaths were not prolonged and so, not inhumane. Does that sound comforting? Would you push the button?
The video below shows a commercial for the Aarhus Museum, one of the museums where Helena was diplayed.

Amber Hansen
Artist Amber Hansen’s 2012 Chicken Run was the spectacle that never was, so we have no gory picture for you to ponder over. Instead, imagine this: Lawrence, Kansas. Five chickens are clucking in a public coop where visitors can get close to them, get to know them, and see them as real live beasts. Then, they watch them get slaughtered, cooked, and served. Then, they eat them. The Story of Chickens: A Revolution was meant to demonstrate that meat isn’t just food, but it was banned on charges of animal cruelty. Meanwhile, more discrete rituals of mass meat production continue.

ARTIST BANNED FROM SLAUGHTERING CHICKENS
By Marina Galperin
Officials in eastern Kansas won’t let artist Amber Hansen slaughter chickens in public anymore. She planned to install coops around Lawrence so the people can bond with the birds and see them more as more than livestock… and then watch the butchering. Yet, the horror show has been curbed for allegations of animal cruelty and bird code violations.
“If people choose to eat meat, it is an important process to witness,” says the butcheress.
“It is a process that takes place on a mass scale every day, and we aren’t really allowed to see it.” ‘Cause…

A pizza chain in New Zealand has sparked an online row after nailing hundreds of rabbit pelts to a billboard to advertise its new Easter Pizza.
To raise awareness of the smoked wild rabbit-topped dish, Hell Pizza covered billboards throughout the country in the animal skins with the tagline: 'Made from real rabbit. Like this billboard.'
Inevitably, online commentators took to social media sites to either vent their anger or defend the chain.

The whole blog is very nice found some good stuff and good information here Thanks..Also visit my page. animal welfare One of our most important tasks is educating the public about the critical difference between animal rights and animal welfare.
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS AWFUL, THIS IS SICK, THIS IS NOT ART, ART IS SHOWING , BEAUTIFUL THINGS, NOT ALL THAT AMOUNT OF ATROCITIES.YOU MUST ALL BE LOCKED UP AND THE KEY THROWN AWAY FOREVER.
ReplyDeleteamazing that we live in a world full of so many atrocities..... and yet we believe that these same atrocities are acceptable when labelled as Art??? What madness there is in the world...... SO sad that our kids will see this.

Just try coming to England ...... coz I would cut that rope and walk that poor creature out !!!!
This is degenerate art and should be banned entirely. I will be lobbying a ban in the UK and my Movement/ Party will now be adopting this and integrating this ban as part of our Animal Rights Review from 2013. Those who do this type of "art" and think its ok, I think need the very least psychiatric evaluation and if thats fine then full criminal charges with no deminished capacity as an excuse. We are Patriotic Socialists and oppose this human attack on the animal kingdom. www.facebook.com/SocialistRevolutionaryParty

ReplyDeleteI have so much disdain and disgust for the human race.
ReplyDeleteYou know these films where it's a 'the end of the world' scenario? (how arrogant, it's only the end for humans, I'm sure the World won't miss us), well, I think it'd spare a lot of suffering for our fellow earthlings.
This all off the back of trying to find out how I can help petition the end of the disgusting practice of 'live sushi'. You keep digging and you just discover more and more things about the human race which dismay and disgust.
Thoroughly ashamed, angered, bewildered, frustrated. I want to help, somehow, want the suffering of innocent lives to end, feel so alone and don't know where to even begin.
Where do we start?
Thank you. Your comment. I know. So distructio. I also seeking for a long time.
DeleteWe need just telling to peaple contenue now.
They have a huge mental problems, they need to be placed in a psychiatric hospital for a life.
ReplyDeleteI'm not amused. But I'm sad for such a kind of attitude, which some humans have in their view to animals. It is badly necessarily, that people, who wants stronger animal rights in the world, getting more endeavour to force the governments for creating stronger laws. A miserable moral attitude, which is shown here, shouldn't longer be allowed, 'cause in a moral relation it is criminal and nothing else, of course no artwork, at least a big shame for our intelligent species.
